The Forces of Nature...

Contrary to popular belief, the U.S. Postal Service has no "official motto." The familiar sentence we all think of is: Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds. This is commonly misidentified as the creed of our mail carriers, but actually it is just the inscription found on the General Post Office in New York City at 8th Avenue and 33rd Street. Wherever the motto came from I think it applies to letterboxers. Last night Lizman and I stood against the forces of nature to check on our Nightmare Before Christmas Series “Lock” box at Dry Creek Cemetery. http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gBoxId=58410 We have some new boxers in the area (Yeah!) and they needed a little clue assistance to find the box as their first venture was unsuccessful. We made the big loop over in the Cemetery after visiting with A-Bear and ToBear in Star. By the time we were nearing the cemetery the wind was wild and whipping like crazy. There was actually a weather advisory last night for a lot of the counties in the area. What better time would there be to hit the trail to confirm our box was alive and well? Fortunately we did not have far to go to capture a couple of extra clues on film. However, the motto never mentioned anything about attack sprinklers. There we were dodging the cycle of the sprinklers on both sides running down the path. I felt like a secret spy dodging electric beams that would set off the alarm in some high security heist. The only problem with my fantasy was that when we got hit by the beans we got very, very wet. Fortunately we snapped the pictures quickly from my clues about “Mr. Indian” and near the actual boxes location, attempted unsuccessfully to dodge the sprinklers on the way back to the car and closed the doors before the downpour started. Whew! Another mission successfully completed.
