Last night we attended the Wyakin Warrior Ball at Boise State University with our hosts Dr. Dan and Kelly Reed.  The Warrior Foundation enables severely wounded and injured veterans to achieve personal and professional success as business and community leaders.  They provide multi-layered mentorship, professional development, scholarship/education, community serviced, and networking/job placement.  www.wyakin.org

There is a huge need for the population that is served as there are over 50,000 troops that have been injured since 9/11.  Unemployment of young veterans is over 22% and over 50% drop out of college the first year.  There is also high homelessness among veterans and the suicide rate is at about 22 veterans each day.

This was the 2nd Annual Guardian Ball with Colonel (Ret.) David Sutherland as the guest speaker.  They featured cartoonists from the National Cartoonists Society who generously donated their time and talents to support the foundation.  I was thrilled to have Mason Mastroianni of B.C. Comics pen us our own cartoon.  http://www.creators.com/comics/bc-about.html . In addition Glenn McCoy of The Flying McCoys also drew a minion for us.  He has been involved with the animation from the Despicable Me movies too.

Dinner featured a mixed green salad with goat cheese and walnuts, Beef Round Eye with Ginger Pineapple Salsa, Wasabi Mashed Potatoes and Grilled Seasonal Vegetables.  Dessert was a decedent miniature chocolate cake.  The evening also featured a live band, silent and live auction and of course the cartoonists sharing their talents.  A big thank you to Dan and Kelly for including us in such a lovely evening.  Although we did not win any of the silent auction items we bid on we did leave a donation as the Wyakin Warrior Foundation is such an amazing organization.

Anthony and I are honestly very casual people.  Most of the time you will find both of us in jeans and a baseball hat.  I don't think between us we own a single designer label (Disney doesn't count does it) and we almost always eat in the bar area of restaurants vs. the dining room.  We don't drive fancy cars (unless a ford focus counts) and we don't know anyone famous or connected.  I honestly can't think of the last time we dressed up as a couple so it was a lot of fun for us to play dress up last night.  In fact I do not think I have ever seen Anthony in a tuxedo before.  We took a picture of each other before we got dressed and then after we were all cleaned up for the evening.  Hay, with a little spit shine we clean up okay.
