All I Really Need to Know I Learned Sea Kayaking

1. Share everything.  This includes kayak storage space, after meal cookies and digital pictures.
2. Paddle fair.  Wait for those who are behind you.
3. Don't be a hull hog.  Share your space so everything makes it to camp including food, the camp stove and fresh water bladders.
4. Put things back where you found them.  Including paddles, water pumps, sponges and the loo dry bag.
5. Clean up your own dishes after every meal.
6. Don't take things that aren't yours.  Especially ROW mugs, lids, spray skirts and personal flotation devices (PFD's).
7. Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.  This includes accidentally ramming others with your kayak or hitting them with your paddles.
8. Wash your hands before you eat and after using the loo.
9. Burn.  As in leave no trace so burn your toilet paper.
10. Wine, hot chocolate and melted brie are good for you.
11. Live a balanced life - paddle some and drink some and learn some and watch some and listen and dream and play every day some.
12. Take time to paddle every afternoon.
13. When you go out into the sea, watch out for boats, barges and cruise ships, stay in sandwich formation, and stick together.
14. Be aware of wonder. Remember the amazing pod of orcas: they are able to sleep and swim at the same time using only ½ of their brain, nobody really knows how, but we are all in awe over their unique abilities and adaptations to a mammal's life at sea.
15. Sea lions and otters and whales and even the little sea stars - they all die. So do we.
16. And then remember the ROW Vacation book in the dry bag library and the first word you learned - the biggest word of all – ADVENTURE!
