Birthday Celebration Arrival in Las Vegas

 Luxor Lobby

We started my birthday celebration Thursday night locally with pizza at Grimaldi's Pizzeria in Meridian at the Village before returning home to pack for our Las Vegas departure on Friday morning.  Anticipating a lot to walking upon our arrival in Las Vegas Anthony and I both dressed very casually for our tip.  One nice thing about visiting Las Vegas is that your flight is only about an hour and a half from Boise.

Anthony booked us a really nice king suite (complete with gigantic soaker tub) in the pyramid in the Luxor Hotel.  We stayed in the Luxor years and yeas ago and although this is one of the older hotels on the strip (built in 1993 but it has been remodeled) I do love the Egyptian theme.  As we ended up on the 24th floor (with great views) walking the stairs was not overly appealing.  Riding the elevator at the Luxor is sort of like a ride at Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory as you are riding up and down at an unusual angle.  You have to stabilize your balance as it makes it's trip up and down the pyramid.  It is amazing to think that it cost $375 million to build the pyramid and that was back in the 90's.

After checking in and unpacking we decided to stop for some appetizers at the T & T Taco's and Tequila Bar in the Luxor before we walked over to the Wynn Hotel to check out where our evening entertainment was located and decide on where we would be enjoying a late dinner.

This was our first visit to the Wynn Las Vegas (Luxury Resort and Casino) and the indoor gardens were stunning!  My pictures above do not do justice to the vibrant colors and opulence of the hotel.  It really was something to see.  The flower horse carousal was amazing.  There was actually a security guard standing at the carousal.  They take their indoor gardens very seriously.  The hot air balloon and carousal were all made of flowers but you do not realize it until you are up close.  It reminded me of floats from a parade.  The hot air balloon is 20 feet tall, weighing 4,000 pounds, and the carousel is 13 feet tall, 16 feet wide and weighs 6,000 pounds.  The maintenance team replaces 5,000 seasonal flowering plants in matching color palettes every three weeks.

We stopped again for appetizers at the Jardin Casual Dining Restaurant at the Wynn overlooking the pools and gardens.  It was so relaxing and lovely to sit outside and enjoy some nibbles together before walking back to the Luxor to change clothes for the evening.
