Steampunk Planting Metal Containers

Birds on a Wire and I decided early on that we didn’t want to use traditional containers for plating our special Steampunk Images for the Steampunk Spectacular event. We also knew we only had a few months to pull our event together so we did not have time to create, build and decorate custom containers. With some thrift shop, antique store and garage sale finds we were able to come up with a large variety of metal containers of all shapes and sizes very inexpensively. Our smallest containers were three Prince Albert Tobacco containers I found at a local antique shop. Some of our larger containers were old tea tins, coffee containers and cookie and sweet treat savers. With some of the larger containers we were worried about how hard they would be to conceal in the wilds of Eagle Island State Park but as soon as we hit the trail and started working on our clues it was amazing how easily we were able to conceal them. Some of the containers were out in the wilds for a few days but we knew that there was no threat of rain and all contents were securely bagged inside the containers. Our biggest concern was cows that might have access to a few of the boxes we had planted but they remained unharmed. Although the cows watched us very suspiciously while we were planting. I think the containers added a fun and whimsical feel to the event.
